Educational Freedom

Michigan will never realize its full potential until we cut the bureaucratic red tape and allow innovation and creativity to be the standard for all Michigan students. This means developing a system that is student-focused and not institution-focused.

There is no one bill or fix to our current educational system that will solve all our problems. Until we are willing to make some tough and necessary reforms, we will continue to fund a system that hasn’t been working. One option that other states have adopted and have seen success with is Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). These provide student/parent-focused options that are narrowly tailored to the students’ specific needs at that time. This will help place the focus where it rightfully belongs – with the student and their family.

Student outcomes will drastically improve when we have a system that is more focused on the student and not on the building or institution they go to for school. These improvements will best prepare them to be contributing members of our society and future leaders in our state and nation.
